McCall put on a truly world-class competition for the Masters World Cup Nordic Skiing event this
past week, proving its name again as “Ski Town USA”.
Over 1200 skiers from 23 different nations raced at Ponderosa State
Park - from distances as short as 5 km up to 45 km. In order to compete in
the World Masters Cup, held for the first time in McCall, skiers had to be at
least 30 years old with the average age of the racers in their mid 50s. The
oldest skier participating was a spry 93 of age!
It
was a fantastic race series with beautiful weather
at Payette Lake that made for fast racing conditions. While everyone wanted
to race their best, there was a feeling of goodwill and high spirits throughout
the week. Hundreds of dedicated volunteers and years of planning for this
amazing Nordic skiingevent were
seamless for both spectators and racers. Alpine Village Company was pleased to
participate in the park and ride program for the race.
