Memorial Day weekend!

Well despite the spring weather holding on strong, I just came up to McCall today and town is jumping with activity!  It looks like folks are ready to dive in to summer activities as I watch the boats, wave runners, motorcycles and various RV's and campers roll through town.  There are some really fun new local businesses open downtown as well.  Take a walk around town and visit the soon to open Pitcher BarBQ, Leger's Deli, Northwest Passage, Lil' Nell's and of course, my favorite new casual lunch and dinner spot, Wraptor.  In addition to these new restaurants I've noticed a few new shops open up this spring that I'm definitely going to check out.  Come by and see us at Alpine Village, we'd love to hear what you're up to in McCall! 

Fishing...In McCall and abroad

Ok, I'll come clean.  I'm a fly fishing junkie.  I just returned from a trip to Belize where I caught my first Permit on a fly.  While this was without a doubt a trip of a lifetime, I'm extremely lucky to have access to great fishing in and around McCall.  High mountain lakes like Louie Lake, Brundage Reservoir and Pearl Lake provide scenic summer hikes into beautiful lakes with great Cutthroat and Rainbow trout fishing.  My kids have loved our walks up to Louie Lake, in the shadow of Jughandle Mountain, where we can spot the Cutthroat from the bank!  I've also become a big Steelhead fishing fan.  The famous Salmon River beckons a short 45 minute drive from McCall with some of the premier Steelhead and Salmon runs in the Northwest.  The photo attached was taken last fall on the Snake River just another hour and a half up the road.  And I don't want to forget the North Fork of the Payette River right outside of town.  There is a very good Drake hatch in June that remains very much under the radar.  If you're interested in scratching an itch to fish around McCall, give me a call, I'm always ready for a trip!

We recently received this note from one of our newest home owners at Alpine Village and I wanted to share it with you.  “My local friends…are fascinated that I am going to some place where I have visited only once and know no one.  I tell them I have found something I have always wanted…mountains, lake, climate and not an over abundance of people like Lake Tahoe, Estes Park, etc.  And I do think I am moving to an area where people are conservative, have good old American values and work for what they have.  During my two days there in September I met several people that I know will become friends once I get there.”  Mr. John Asmus, Boerne, Texas. 

 Needless to say, this message put a big smile on my face.  It’s always hard to describe what makes McCall so great.  My "go to" phrase is inevitably, it’s just a special place.  I’ve been visiting McCall since I was 6 years old.  I learned how to snow ski, fish, drive a boat and ride a motorcycle in McCall.  I met and married my wife Carmen here.  Mr. Asmus visited once and clearly made a connection.  Come by and visit us and see what memories await you in McCall.
